Thomas Holenz
ArtistArt has been part of my life for many years. For me, it is a form of expression, a meeting of people and a way to make feelings visible.
My name is Thomas Holenz, I was born in 1966, and I live and work as an independent artist in Melle. My painting has developed over many years – through experimenting, observing and, above all, the joy of creating something new again and again.
I work with acrylic and oil paints, texture pastes, sand, and gold and silver elements in epoxy resin. I am particularly interested in colour, light, surfaces and shapes. Some of my paintings emerge spontaneously and intuitively; others develop over a longer period, layer by layer.
My portraits are an important part of my work. People fascinate me – their personalities, their relationships and the stories behind a face. In my colourful, geometric portraits, I am therefore not simply trying to reproduce a photograph. I want to turn a personal memory into a work of art in its own right.
Alongside these, I create my abstract circle and symbol paintings. Here, my painting becomes quieter and more restrained. Circles, light, texture and metallic elements create spaces in which every viewer can discover something of their own.
And there is another side to my art: “Clowns & Friends”. These works can be loud, quirky, humorous and sometimes a little reflective. For me, joy in life and seriousness belong together.
As different as my works may seem at first glance, one idea connects them:
Art does not have to explain everything. It can touch us, awaken memories and bring people together.
